As most of you will know the annual Woodville motorcross has just been and things went fairly good for me, could have been better. The weekend had a few "if's" thrown in, more on that later. Entries were down this year so qualifying wasn't required with 39 in the class.
Race one on Friday and got an average start, end of the first lap was in 14th place and worked my way up. On the last lap I caught and passed Tom Vandenburg to take 7th place.
Race two on Saturday morning, they watered the track right before our race. Got a better start and headed into the bowl in 8th place. By the end of the second lap I was in 3rd place then washed the front wheel out on the corner before the superjump dropping back to 8th. I quickly remounted and went for it and climbed my way back up to 3rd by race end. That put me in 3rd place, 1 point behind 2nd. Haki Waller was out due to mechanical trouble and Courtney Duncan was having bike troubles to, not scoring points in race 2 so finishing the day on the podium was looking good.
Race three Coming out of the bowl I was in 3rd place then washed the front wheel out on the corner before the tabletop. I remounted about 15th and was back into 10th at end of lap 1. I needed to beat Jacob Kneebone and Dylan Wilson from Australia to get 2nd overall. Well, Jacob was behind me, Dylan was in 4th. Added to the mix was Tom Vandenburg(PN) who was in 3rd ahead of Dylan which would now put him right amongst the points battle. Courtney Duncan and Micah Goldrick had checked out finishing 40 seconds ahead of Tom in 3rd. I was running 2-3 seconds a lap quicker than the rest in front of me and quickly made my way upto 6th place and closing on 5th. Unfortunately the race was cut short 5 minutes with the white flag coming out after only 4 laps. By the chequers I was in 6th place and a 3 way tie for 3rd overall. So what were the if's, if the last race was longer I could of finished 5th giving me third overall. Had I not fallen off twice in the last race I might of finished in 3rd place giving me 2nd overall. But thats not what happened so I will have to train harder and be better prepared for the Junior Nats in April and hopefully bring home the number one plate.
1st Micah Goldrick (Rangiora) 72points
2nd Dylan Wilson (Aust) 51points
3rd Tom Vandenburg (PN) 49 points
4th Scott Sowry (Pahiatua) 49 points
5th Jacob Kneebone (Matamata) 49points
