Firstly, sorry for not putting in a report for a little while, things have been a little hectic as I'm sure you all know. I hope the new year has treated you all well. I will try catch you up on what we have been up to the last couple of months.
Firstly I wrapped up the 13-16yr 85cc class at the Manawatu MX Champs the first Sunday in December. The highlight for me was catching and passing Haki Waller in the last race showing I have the pace to run with the fast guys.
The Bushrider cross country series is underway with two rounds done now with a second place at round one. At round 2 I had a good start and lead the feild for a good part of lap 1 before Ben Exeter overtook riding a CRF250. I held my position till a big crash on the last lap dropping me back to about 6th overall and 2nd in class.
After Xmas we made the trek back up north for SummerX. The club had made some little changes to the track from previous years and had ripped it deeply which slowed the the laptimes and made it more technical. First race had ok start and finished 7th. Race two changed jetting and got a better start, only to have a rider highside in front of me taking me out as well. Remounted mid pack and push my way back up to 7th. Race 3 was 7th round the first corner and pushed hard. By mid race was into 3rd place behind Courtney Duncan and James Anderson. 2nd to last lap I put in my fastest laptime of the day and was on James' rear fender at the chequered flag giving me 5th overall for the day.
Last week we headed down to Timaru for round 1 of the NZSX champs on Wednesday night. Qualified 7th. Race one got 5th, followed by a 4th and a 6th to finish 5th overall.
Then Saturday at the Rat track in Nelson for the South Island champs I qualified 7th. I struggled to get dialled in on the dry dusty track and finished race one in 7th. By race race two I had things sorted and secured 3rd in race 2 & 3 to give me 3rd place overall on countback.
The following day the track was really wet and slippery from overnight watering. Race one and Micah McGoldrick checked out to take the race win. Mid race I had climbed into third. Haki washed his front wheel out and had trouble restarting finishing 5th. I held on to take 2nd. Race two and there was more action up front with Micah going down in the whoops handing Haki the lead. Then I put a pass on Haki through the whoops to take the lead briefly with Haki tripling past me on the next section. Then Micah caught up and we battled for a couple of laps, then Micah went down again with me finishing 2nd, Micah 3rd.
The final race had even more action with Micah, Haki sharing the lead throughout the race. I had the whoops sorted with light rain falling by race start. Micah dropped his bike while leading handing the lead to Haki with Dylan Walsh in second. Micah remounted quickly and passed me then Dylan. I passed Dylan in the whoops for third place, he quickly passed back in the last rhythm section before dropping it in the last corner giving me third. By then Micah and taken the lead and started to pull away. Haki and I swapped positions a couple of times before I managed to pull away and take my third 2nd place for the day. So at the halfway point I am sitting in 4th place, 1 point behind third with two rounds to go. This Saturday is round 3 at Tokoroa.
