The 2010 New Zealand Cross Country championships were wrapped recently near Cheviot in North Canterbury where members of Bushriders motorcycle club walked away with three national titles. Adam Reeves (YZF450) successfully defended his title he won last year, in a nail biting finish near Cheviot. Going into the race Adam knew he had to finish forth or better to retain his title. It all nearly came unstuck for him mid race, while sitting in a very comfortable second place.
The very dry conditions there made visibility from the very fine dust hard to see at times, nearly resulting in a big crash that injured his ankle. However he was able to ride through the pain barrier dropping back to forth by race end to win the series overall by 4 points from Auckland's Shaun Foggarty. In the class standings where drop a round is applied, Shaun edged Adam off the top step by only one point. The only other senior to make the podium was Dannevirke's Chris Smythe (KXF250) placing 3rd in the Veteran 45+ class.

The other two nationals titles were in the junior ranks. Palmerston North rider Jordan Wilson (KTM250) won the Junior overall title as well as the Four stroke Overs class. Tararua college student, Scott Sowry (KX85) won the Under two stroke class as well as an impressive 6th overall against the larger capacity bikes. Not surprisingly Jordan and Scott (second year running) both won their respective classes two weeks earlier in the North Island series finale near Martinborough.
Other junior riders to make the podium were, in his rookie year, Eketahuna's Charlie Richardson (KX85) placing 3rd in the under 2 stroke class. Dannevirke's Stacy Smythe (KXF250) and Woodville's Ben Exeter (CRF250) finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in the over four stroke class.
